The Challenge Before Us

It would be an understatement to say that the will of God is of great importance. Throughout the Scriptures, the will of God is paramount!

In the Apostle Paul’s writings alone, the significance of God’s will to Christian discipleship is greatly emphasised.

The Apostle Paul highlighted the will of God as pertinent to Christian dedication: “... so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1–2)

To walk in wisdom, understanding God’s will is profoundly important: “So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17)

The will of God is so important that it was a significant focus of Paul’s prayers: “I pray for you so that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…” (Colossians 1:9)

Yet while the will of God is of paramount importance in Christian discipleship, many sincere Christians are confused about it. The will of God is so often subjectively discerned and arbitrarily engaged.

How do we really KNOW the will of God? Unless we know the will of God (and do it!) we cannot really grow in our walk with God or in our work for God, or even in our worship of God!

What IDMC 2012 Is About

The theme for IDMC 2012 Conference is “KNOWING GOD’S WILL: The Vital Roadmap for Discipleship Today”.

In the contemporary Church, theological reflection is often missing. The integration of a biblical worldview and practical discipleship is often neglected. Knowing God’s will provides a vital roadmap for discipleship today in both spiritual understanding and practical living.

IDMC Conference 2012 aims to help individuals move beyond spiritual complacency and subjectivity to a fuller biblical understanding of God’s will “in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”. It offers a deeper understanding of the Bible’s teaching concerning the will of God.

The aim is not merely intellectual but spiritual. It decisively seeks to inspire and instruct participants towards discerning and walking in the will of God.

Whom IDMC 2012 Is For

IDMC 2012 conference is for all Christians who are serious about the will of God. It is designed for those who are keen to grow in their walk with God. It is for Christians who want to grow in discerning and doing God’s will in their lives.

All IDMC conferences are designed to promote biblical thinking, theological reflection and practical discipleship. The conference aims to make the complex easy to understand. The materials, while thought-provoking, are lucid and clear.

The IDMC conferences are thus well received by a broad spectrum of participants, ranging from senior pastors to cell members, who are regularly found attending the conference and from the massive positive feedback, benefitting from it.

Background Of The IDMC Conferences

Upon his return from his first sabbatical in 1995, Rev. Edmund Chan launched the annual Intentional Disciple-making Church (IDMC) Conferences. Since then, the IDMC conferences have ministered cutting-edge disciple-making teachings to thousands of participants.

The previous IDMC conferences saw overwhelming responses. It has grown from an initial 320 participants to about 2800 participants in 2011.

The past IDMC conferences have been immediately sold out for three consecutive years (with fully paid registrations a year in advance), attracting participants from about 321 churches across 23 countries. We were sorry to have to turn away hundreds of people, in spite of the fact that our own church members were told NOT to sign up for the 2011 IDMC conference, as a similar ‘in-house’ conference was held for about 1500 of them!

Each year’s IDMC conference is not a re-hash of previous IDMC conferences. Rather, each IDMC conference is distinct in itself; each addressing critical concerns in disciple-making churches today.

Main Highlights of IDMC 2012

1. Knowing God’s Will: The Key To Everything!
2. How To Really Know The Will of God
3. Four Theological Statements Concerning God’s Will
4. Suffering: Making Sense Out Of God’s Will
5. Beyond Duty: Preferring the Will of God
6. Understanding God’s Redemptive Will

Many of the paradigms and ideas shared at the IDMC conferences are the vital fruits of Edmund Chan’s deep reflection and ministry. IDMC 2012 distills these insights and presents them in a compelling manner to bear upon the critical issue of knowing God’s will.
